I began this bag thinking that I would make it a little sheep . . . I even made the little legs. They were cute, those little legs still on the double-pointed needles. But then a cold chill stole into my heart and as much as you and I love sheep, well, I had to wonder if I really wanted to carry a little sheep around. Such a sheep seemed to want to stay in the knitting bag with her kindred fibers. However, a little bag with a decidedly wooly quality wanted to go out and see the world.

The first place I took her was to California. Our first outing was to San Marino where we began with lunch at Julienne's, a cafe with great open-air patios, high ceilings, slowly-turning fans, food both lovely and delicious.

From there, we went to the Huntington: the gardens there are beatiful rooms, my favorite full of cacti and sucullents. The mansion could keep you wandering around in it for a days on end. And then there is the library collection. Like most gardens, it is a place that beckons you to stroll, to wander and explore, and then to return.

And this was only the beginning of our adventures . . .
